AGM

There are many reasons to attend an AGM. The AGM provides you the opportunity to meet the outgoing committee members and welcome the new elected committee. And you are part of the election process. You can voice your concerns or present new ideas or even volunteer as a committee member. Maybe all three.

What is an AGM ?.  An AGM (Annual General Meeting) is a formal meeting which is held once a year.  It is a legal requirement for voluntary organizations that have company status. It affords an opportunity to review the year and deal with issues such as election of the board of directors and committee members.  The accounts are also reviewed. It is also a formal opportunity to communicate with members.

The Chair of an organization was once asked to comment on some good reasons to attend an AGM. He aptly replied that many people are motivated to attend AGM's just to make things happen. There are a good number who come to watch things happen. But the majority of attendees leave the AGM never knowing what happened.

Yes AGM's can be fun and we would encourage members to attend the AGM. The GAC is our "community" and the AGM is part of that, it's time to celebrate the past year and a time to envision the coming year. It's a time when we can meet old members and greet the new members. It's a time to bring in your questions. It's a time to bring in your ideas.. it's a time to know each other and show support to our club.
